Everybody is welcome to forward interesting or important references for publication on Journal Watch. Following a decision at the 2007 IAP (SA) AGM, the Executive Committee initiated a process to establish the congress organising committee by the beginning of February 2008. Briefly, the President, Vice-president, secretary and treasurer will be nominated and elected in the event of more than one nomination. It is important to remember that the secretary and treasurer will undoubtedly require support and will co-opt additional members to assist them. Nominations for the Marketing- and Scientific Committee respectively, will be accepted and the nominated members will then elect the respective chairperson for each committee. Members recently received detail regarding the process to nominate members, and a reminder will be sent by middle January 2008. It is important that members actively participate in this process. We previously agreed that the 2012 Congress is a major event and challenge and that participation and support from all members will be essential to ensure a successful outcome.

Prof Martin Hale will present a progress report regarding the organising committee and other matters to the IAP Council at the 97th Annual Meeting of USCAP in March 2008.

You can download the GI Pathology Course Handbook for the Inaugural East African British School of Pathology 2010. This three day symposium on gastrointestinal pathology was held at the Nairobi Hospital 5-8 August 2010 and covered most subjects of relevance to the practising diagnostic pathologist. The hanbook contains comprehensive reference listings and cross-references to important documents, especially UK’s Royal College of Pathologists’ datasets for the reporting of oesophageal, gastric and colorectal cancer specimens.
